Terp Slurper Enail Beginners Guide: How To Use A Terp Slurper Enail?

The terp slurper enail kit made waves when it was first introduced to the game a few years ago. What a genius idea, combining the terp preserving qualities of a terp slurper and the consistent smooth temperature of an enail. Not only do terp slurpers give you better terpene and cannabinoid consumption, it's also great for tons of different dab sizes, large or small.

If you are making the switch from a torch to an enail, or from a bucket banger to a terp slurper banger, there are a few things to take note of. Below we'll give you all the deets you need, so that you can get the best dabbing experience possible out of your terp slurper enail.

Terp Slurper Heating Time

When using an enail, it is recommended to wait at least two minutes after your enail controller has reached your desired temperature, before attempting to dab. This waiting period ensures that the heat transfer from your coil to your banger/dab nail is complete, and that your banger/dab nail is heated up to dabbing temperature.

A terp slurper enail banger needs more time to heat up to temperature, this is because of the terp slurpers' more complicated design. Most terp slurper enail coils only heat the bottom dish of a terp slurper, while the middle column is free of direct heat. The middle column is a very important part of this style of banger and its function.

What is the True Function of a Terp Slurper?

To understand the heating differences between a bucket banger and a terp slurper banger, we need to first understand a terp slurpers function. This type of banger usually has a u shaped small bucket at the top, a column/chamber attached underneath it, and then a dish at the very bottom (attached to the column).

When using a torch the dish is heated to temperature and so is the column, your dab is then placed onto the dish for vaporization. Whatever is left of your dab that was not vaporized, is later sucked into the heated column/chamber for further vaporization. Terp slurpers are used with terp pills, marble carb caps, and terp pillars; these inserts help to facilitate an equal spread of your dab throughout that lower chamber for full vaporization.

This design truly makes a terp slurper super efficient even for lower temperature dabs, giving a huge surface area for vaporization, reducing reclaim, and it looks absolutely sick while doing it too.

Terp Slurper Enail Bangers - How Do They Work?

Now that we have its function out of the way, we can talk about the compatible enail coils. When terp slurper enail kits were first released, they were paired with a simple flat enail coil. As we previously mentioned, that middle column needs to be heated up to temperature to get the most out of your dabs, this is an essential part of its function.

Needless to say, the flat coil did not produce enough heat to fully immerse the lower half of a terp slurper to a hot enough temperature to efficiently vaporize dabs. With more experimenting, trial and error, and customer feedback, we came up with a solution, a bigger coil is needed.

How to Get a Terp Slurper Enail to Work Efficiently

The vapebrat terp slurper enail kit is equipped with a 5 wrap axial enail coil with 2 bottom wraps, and a taller bottom dish which helps vaporize larger-sized dabs with ease.

Since the enail coil only makes contact with the bottom dish, the additional wraps produce more heat, which then is transferred to the middle column of the terp slurper banger. This is not to say that the bottom dish and the column will be the exact same temperature, the bottom dish will always be hotter. The middle column is strictly relying on heat transfer from the larger coil.

Although the column of your terp slurper enail banger isn't heated to a high enough temperature to completely vaporize the wax that gets pulled in through the bottom slits. It is warmed up enough to allow your unvaporized dab to slide back down into the lower dish for more vaporization.

This is exactly why a terp slurper enail banger will take 3-4 minutes to heat up to reach optimal temperature, when compared to a bucket banger. The heat transfer to the middle column is essential.

Terp Slurper Enail Terpene and Cannabinoid Preservation

Terpenes: How do Terp Slurper Enail Bangers Preserve Terpenes?

Most essential terpenes are activated at lower temperatures, some as low as 210 degrees and some as high as 390 degrees. However, the standard medium dabbing temperature is around 500 degrees, this poses a problem for terpenes, since most of them are burned up at 500 degrees instead of being vaporized for consumption.

Here is where your terp slurper enail comes in to save the day (or save your terps). Since the middle column is not heated to the same temperature of your bottom dish, and whatever unvaporized dabs is then sucked INTO that middle column, we can presume that some of those terpenes are being activated as it makes contact with the lower temperature column.

Cannabinoids: How do Terp Slurper Enai Bangers Preserve Cannabinoids?

The same logic carries over to cannabinoids, all essential cannabinoids are activated at moderately lower temps. Some as low as 120 degrees some as high as 430 degrees, but let's be honest about the MAIN cannabinoid most of us are after is THC. Tetrahydrocannabinol is activated at around 310-390 degrees, its degradation point is around 450 degrees.

As your dab hits the heated dish on your terp slurper you'll get instant vaporization for thc consumption. However, whatever unvaporized dab enters the column to release those sweet aromatic terpenes, then your dab slides back down into the heated dish (which is now at a lower temperature because it came into contact with a cooler material aka your dab) for a fully vaporized cannabinoid rich, terpene rich dab.

Flavor: How Do Terp Slurper Enail Bangers Preserve Flavor?

Besides the lower temp terpene activation we just spoke about, a terp slurpers design pulls your airflow in from the bottom making contact with your dab. This is much different from a standard banger where the air flow is pulled in from the top. The airflow must pass through your dab then make its way through the chamber, pulled into the neck, then your rig for inhalation.

The airflow route of a terp slurper allows you to taste your terps, adding to its delivery of incredible flavor. As you inhale, the airflow carries all the aromatic goodness of those included terpenes into your vapor. Think of this process more like an aromatherapy inhaler, a flavored air type of experience.

Secure Connection

How is a Terp Slurper Enail Banger Connected to an Enail Coil?

A terp slurper enail banger dish is welded to the middle column, the bottom of the column has 3-4 slits in order to draw in your concentrate. This is what gives you the “slurping” function, the open slits pull in your dab as you inhale.

However, since the dish is welded to this column and the column has slits, the bottom dish is only securely welded at three or four points. Lets just say the connection points of these welded pieces are not too stable especially when faced with high temps.

Having a secure connection between the coil and the banger is incredibly important, not only for heating purposes but also for safety. A terp slurper enail banger will have an additional quartz rod at the bottom of the dish to attach an o-clamp to. The enail coil slides over the dish and then the o-clamp is attached underneath the coil for a proper secure connection.

Why Did My Terp Slurper Enail Banger Dish Break?

A problem arises when the weight of an enail coil is pulling down on that welded dish, combined with the constant heating and cooling, those three small welds eventually break. The bottom dish size can range from 25mm to 35mm, when comparing a 25mm enail coil to a 35mm enail coil, the 35mm coil will weigh significantly more. Weight and temperature changes puts additional stress on the bottom dish, the way to fix this is by adding in our silicone tie.

The silicone support strap is attached to the enail coil arm and the banger neck, evening out the weight of the enail coil so that the stress is alleviated from only one section of the banger. This e-nail coil strap is included with all vapebrat terp slurper enail kits and terp slurper coil kits free of charge. With multiple notches, the strap can be adjusted as needed based on the banger’s size.

Temperature Setting

Now that you know all the ins and outs of a terp slurper enail, there is just one question left.

What Temperature Am I Setting my Terp Slurper Enail To?

Brilliant question by the way, we now know that the middle column of a terp slurper enail banger relies exclusively on heat transfer from the bottom dish and the surrounding coil. Adjusting your dabbing temperature slightly higher is an absolute given in order to get the most out of your dabs.

Your controller box set temperature may need to be adjusted by as much as 100 degrees, depending on your previous dabbing temperature. Through years of customer service questions, our biggest complaint is that the terp slurper enail will not get hot enough to complete a dab. This is ONLY because a temperature modification is needed.

IR Temperature Readers and the True Temperature of Your Banger

We have had too many conversations with customers who use an Infrared Dab Temp Reader and believe they have a true understanding of the temperature of their banger. It's important to note that torch dabbing and enail dabbing are not the same. Enails provide a consistent temperature throughout your dab sessions while torch dabbing temperature declines as time goes on.

When attempting to transfer an IR Temp Reading from torch dabbing, and then translating it to a temp setting on an e-nail most users are a bit disappointed. Infrared dab temp readers can vary tremendously in quality and temperature accuracy. Mostly depending on the dab temp reader's grade, the distance from the sensor to the banger, and the actual part of the banger the sensor is pointed to can alter the temperature reading from its actual temperature.

This doesn't mean that they are completely useless, although most infrared temp readers are not 100% accurate, they ARE at least consistent. That means that even if the exact temperature reading is wrong, as long as your temperature readings are consistently showing a specific temperature, you can still find the proper temperature for you.

The moral of the story is to use an IR temperature reading as a dabbing “cue” and not as precise temperature reading.

Translating Dabbing Temperature to an Enail Controller Box

It's usually ineffective when you try to replicate the same temperature reading from your ir thermometer over to an e-nail, you most likely will not get the same experience. When it comes to dabbing with a terp slurper enail banger, we always recommend increasing the temperature slightly higher than what you are typically used to.

A temperature alteration allows for better dab vaporization on the dish of the terp slurper while also increasing the heat transfer of the middle chamber. Aiding in the process of your unvaporized dabs flowing back down to the bottom dish to be vaporized.

We have created a “dab torch to e-nail kit heating calculator”, to help you decide which enail temperature is best for you based on your previous dab torch preferences. Although this calculator is pretty accurate, we always recommend adding 25-50 degrees to your final set temperature when using a terp slurper enail kit. (please link the calculator)

In general, we recommend a start of 600 degrees for a terp slurper and adjust your temp by 25 degrees until you lock in to your preferred temperature. Once you have a good idea of the temperature you prefer, you can adjust by 10 degrees until you find your perfect temp.

Some people prefer to go as high as 700 degrees, but just be aware that dabbing over 650 degrees might expose you to harmful fumes, instead of the good stuff. Be sure not to blacken your terp slurper, as this will impair the taste, cause chazzing, and might bring about the need for a replacement banger much sooner than expected.

Proper Dab Size

What is the Proper Dab Size for a Terp Slurper Enail Banger?

Curating your dab size to the size of your quartz banger is just as crucial as getting the right temperature. Flooding the terp slurper dish with a larger dab than you can efficiently vaporize (based on your banger temperature) can cause a world of trouble. Overloading your banger results in loads of reclaim, which might produce smaller clouds if any, waste your concentrate, clog your rig, and calls for more frequent and costly cleanings.

There is a reason why terp slurper enails come in a ton of different sized options. A good rule of thumb you can use is a dab size of up to 0.2g is best for a 25mm, 0.3g for a 30mm dish, and 0.4g for a 35mm terp slurper dish.

Proper Dab Dish Loading

Step By Step How to Load Your Terp Slurper Enail Banger

The way you place your dab onto the terp slurper dish is also another thing to consider for an efficient session. Dropping an entire glob onto the dish at once will cause that portion of the dish to rapidly cool, reducing its vaporization ability. This can also draw in solid portions of your unvaporized dab into the open terp slurper slits clogging the airflow.

The proper way to dab with a terp slurper enail banger:

  • First use a dab tool. Load your dab tool with your desired dab size.
  • Then place your dab tool onto the terp slurper dish.
  • As your dab begins to melt and come off your dab tool you can slowly move the dab tool around the dish.
  • Moving around the dab tool will help spread your dab completely around the dish of the banger.
  • Even distribution of your dab will allow for the most efficient heating and vaporization possible.

Inhalation Method

How to Inhale from Your Dab Rig to Get the Best Dab For your Terp Slurper Enail

I know it sounds like we're exaggerating, but proper inhalation strength and speed makes a big difference in dabbing. Inhaling too quickly with a terp slurper banger causes your dense dab to be drawn into the middle chamber without giving it enough time to vaporize or even melt. This is a common error for first-timers.

Inhalation strength can be a bit tricky to master, you have to inhale strong enough to slightly lift the valve marble inside your terp slurper banger. Just enough to create a small gap for vapor to pass through the chamber and make its way to your rig. However, if you inhale too sharply you risk wasting your entire dab or you can run into a clogging issue.

The Most Ideal Inhalation Method

The most ideal way to approach a terp slurper banger is with a slow and steady inhale. Inhaling slowly gives your dabs time to vaporize off of the heated bottom dish. While inhaling steadily gives you enough pulling power to subtly lift the valve marble letting your vapor pass through.

Different Terp Slurper Style Bangers

Standard Terp Sluper Enail Bangers

Terp slurper enails have been sought after ever since they were created and offered as an option in the enail world. Luckily with some fine tuning most users are able to turn turp slurper enail dabbing into a success story instead of a complete failure. Consequently, with popularity comes evolution, you can be sure to see new designs, different styles, and techniques in the near future. Our most recent variation of the terp slurper enail banger is the terp hammer enail banger.

Newest Enail Banger: Terp Sluper Hammer Enail Banger

This banger looks just like the terp slurper banger, with one difference, instead of having an open bottom dish (like you would see on a traditional terp slurper banger), the terp hammer has an enclosed bottom. Since this design is not open, your dab will have to be placed down inside the banger for vaporization instead of on a dish.

I know this might sound like more of a hassle to some, but in practice, there is a very clear advantage over a regular terp slurper. The terp hammer design helps retain heat inside the bottom enclosed section of the banger, leading to better vaporization. Its enclosed bottom helps with heat transfer to the middle chamber of the terp slurper as well. Now, this design will not get that middle column to a hot enough temperature to vaporize your dab. But it will surely be hot enough to slide the dabs back down to the dish quickly for complete vaporization.

With a completely closed off bottom, this banger is slightly more complicated to clean, you might need bendable dab swabs or iso dunk tank to get it fully clean. Aside from its more complex design, it still produces that fantastic flavor and full terpene/cannabinoid consumption avid terp slurper users know and love. The terp hammers spinning airflow generated from the slits above the enclosed bottom forces the air through your dabs and up into the banger neck for optimal flavor and effectiveness.

If you are someone who is having a bit of trouble achieving the perfect dab with a traditional terp slurper e-nail banger, switching over to the terp hammer would be the easiest way to get more efficient dabs while still getting the same great flavor and effectiveness of a terp slurper banger.

Common Issues and Fixes

  • If your terp slurper dish is becoming black, your temp is too high.
  • If your terp slurper dish is becoming black yet you are not getting sufficient vapor, please increase your inhalation speed and strength.
