How to Choose the Right E-Nail Setup

Start with Your Typical Dab Size

So, for smaller sized dabs you don't exactly need a large surface area to get the most optimal vaporization, smaller dabs are a good fit for smaller sized bangers/dab nails. On the other hand, if you like taking massive dabs, then you'll need a larger banger.

There is a significant importance to matching your dab size to your quartz banger, especially when working with bigger dabs. If your banger is too small you'll be left with a ton of leftover unvaporized oil, which will either get inside your rig, splash all over your banger, or swabbed out of your banger and then thrown away.

Deciding Between Quartz, Titanium, and Hybrid Enails

Quartz Enail:

• Quartz bangers and quartz dab nails are best for those that prioritize flavor, quartz is inert, heats up to temp rather quickly and retains temperature for a good amount of time. Making it a perfect material for dabbing, but even more so for enails.
• There are several different styles of quartz enail bangers, like standard bucket, auto spinner, terp slurper, opaque bottom, center core, and more!
• One thing to keep in mind, quartz is a little more fragile than other dabbing options out there, if you’re a clumsy dabber it might be best to go with a different material.

Titanium Enail:

• Titanium dab nails are extremely durable and are perfect for daily use. This type of material is designed to take on high temperatures much better than quartz, without cracking or breaking on you.
• If you are an everyday dabber, and you don't like constant replacements that come with using materials like quartz, titanium will be a much better option for you.
• The beauty of using a titanium dab nail is its universal fitting, it's compatible with all different sized dab rigs, 10mm, 14mm, 18mm both male and female fittings!

Hybrid Enail:

• Hybrid enails give you the best of both dabbing advantages when it comes to both titanium and quartz. A hybrid dab nail comes with a titanium bottom half, which includes the universal fitting, but with a quartz top dish that serves as your dabbing surface. Clean flavor plus incredible durability.
• Using a hybrid nail opens you up to different dabbing materials, you aren't just tied down to quartz. You can purchase separate dishes like silicon carbide, titanium, and even ceramic.

Match Your Enail Coil to Your Enail Banger

Quartz banger sizing might be a bit tricky for beginners, joint sizing and bucket diameter are two different measurements. When you see 10mm, 14mm, or 18mm, this refers to the joint size that is supposed to fit your dab rig. When you see 20mm, 25mm, 30mm, this is referring to bucket diameter. The bucket diameter has to be the same size as your coil, a 25mm diameter banger fits a 25mm e-nail coil, a 30mm diameter banger fits a 30mm enail coil, and so on.

The second thing you would need to pay attention to is whether you need a barrel or an axial enail coil. A barrel coil is shaped into a ring with an open top and bottom, you can see directly through to the other side. While an axial e nail coil is shaped more like a bucket, it is open at the top but it is closed on the bottom. Most enails these days come with an axial coil, but there are some enails that still come with barrel coils like the 20mm copa e-nail and some titanium e nails.

A barrel coil can only be used with very specific types of bangers that have an extra arm on the side of it to hold the e-nail coil in place. Or else you would have to opt for a silicone holder or something similar.

Now, there are different types of axial coils, they are defined by the number of metal wire wraps. Like a hybrid enail coil is a type of axial coil, however it only has two to three wire wraps scaling up so its best paired with 25mm hybrid / titanium dab nails. Terp Slurper enail coils also have a specific number of wire wraps to match the bottom dish of a terp slurper.

Lastly, there is the flat enail coil, it looks exactly as its name suggests, it's completely flat. This type of coil used to be paired with terp slurpers, however it did not provide the needed heat transfer for proper vaporization. Now you will most likely see a flat coil with a hybrid or titanium dab nail, if you see it at all. Flat coils are the older model of enail coils, they still work but now we have more efficient heating like you would experience with the bucket design on an axial coil!

Which Type of Dabber Are You?

The Beginner:

As a beginner you should prioritize simplicity. A simple bucket banger without any complicated inserts and without much of a learning curve (terp slurper and nectar collector setups might be a bit complicated for first time users). Next you should look for a common coil size, 25mm axial enail coils are the most common type of enail coil available on the market.

Since 25mm is the most common size, you can find loads of different nail options pretty easily. This will help in the long term as you get more comfortable using your enail, you’ll quickly be able to switch out dab nails as you'd like to move onto the more complex options.

Now as for accessories, keeping it simple with a regular spinner carb cap and some terp pearls would probably be your best option. Most carb caps are pretty straight forward, but pairing the correct dab inserts with your carb cap is where things begin to get a little hazy. Terp pearls are made to spin around the bottom of your banger, to spread your dab along the heated section of your banger so that your dab vaporizes evenly. This will increase your efficiency and reduce waste, which is especially useful for beginners.

The Cloud Chaser:

As a cloud chaser, I'm sure you know, it's all about higher temps and bigger dabs. You would want to go for a larger dabbing surface around 25-30mm, whatever you do steer clear of any 20mm banger or dab nails. If you like dabbing at higher temperatures it might be best to go with either a hybrid or a titanium dab nail so that you get better heat retention (if you go with titanium) and you run less of the risk of cracking or chazzing a quartz banger.

With a hybrid you still have that quartz component with the top dish being made of quartz, BUT, if you run into any issues with chazzing or cracking these top dishes are super cheap and easy to replace. As I mentioned earlier, you also have the option of swapping the dish out for other options like silicon carbide, which is a ceramic material made to take on even the heaviest beating without sustaining a single scratch.

When it comes to accessories, we're going for dense vapor. The easiest way to get denser vapor is by minimizing airflow, you don't have to necessarily get rid of ALL the airflow. However, you should make sure you have a perfect seal at the top of your banger and a carb cap that has an airflow hole at the top, you can keep that airflow hole somewhat sealed when inhaling to really milk it before inhaling.

The Heavy Daily User:

If you are a heavy daily dabber, you need the most durable option you can find. We're talking about a titanium nail with a titanium or sic dish in this one, if flavor is important to you assuming it is you're better off going with the silicon carbide. This material is incredibly durable while delivering the same flavor profile of quartz, it's easy to clean, easy to maintain and can withstand the test of time.

Sic dishes usually come in the most common sizing, 25mm, but there are 30mm options as well if you prefer taking larger dabs. Again, the versatile 25mm axial enail coil sizing is the most dependable option out there, even if you somehow misplace your sic dish you can always toss in a quartz banger or different dish for a temporary switch up. It opens you up to loads of different options, making replacements or alternatives easy to find.

You are a little tiny bit limited with dabbing accessories using a dab nail instead of a banger, however, here at e-nail.com we carry a titanium nail spinner carb cap. Yes, you heard it right, a spinner cap made to fit the top of a dab nail, it has two slanted airflow holes on either side of the cap perfect for spinning terp pearls. With a deep silicon carbide dish, you can easily pair two 3mm terp pearls inside the dish making your dab nail dabs more efficient than ever before.

The Advanced Dabber:

More advanced users are open to all enail options, but they are more equipped to handle the more complicated versions like the terp slurper enail, nectar collector enail, coil caddy, and more. It's not that these options are necessarily complicated, it's just that they all require a bit of a learning curve.

Terp slurper enails need slight adjustments to temperature so that they can vaporize correctly and you would need to wait a few more minutes longer than usual to get it to heat up to temp. As for nectar collectors, you would need to touch the nail to concentrate at an angle, if you dunk your nail straight down into your wax you'll end up with issues like clogging and loads of reclaim. Although these are small refinements to your typical way to dab, experienced users are more likely to make these adjustments so that their dabbing sessions run smoothly and efficiently since they have a better understanding of dabbing overall.

Certain enail options like the coil caddy, open you up to using all different styles of bangers instead of just enail bangers. For example, terp column bangers, blenders and even the more standard ones like a regular bucket, opaque bottoms, center cores and more. Using all these types of bangers opens you up to all different dabbing inserts like marble carb caps, terp pillars, terp spinners and more!
