Best E-Rig for Beginners: Easiest Devices to Load, Clean, and Maintain
Tired of the dab rig and torch? Even an enail is more of an at home setup than a portable one. But nectar collectors and dab pens don't have enough power to get you that RIPP you're looking for.
So, what's the next best option?
Yep, an electric dab rig.
Portable, powerful, all in one without any extra complicated parts making them one of the most beginner friendly devices out there.
Disclaimer - Not all electric dab rigs are COMPLETELY beginner friendly, some are a tad more complicated with a series of buttons and settings that can be a little complex for beginners. All in all, MOST are pretty straightforward with one button with a few preset temperature settings.
What this blog covers:
- The top beginner-friendly e-rigs on the market
- What makes an e-rig "easy" to use (and what to avoid)
- How to load, clean, and maintain your device
- Honest pros and cons for each pick
What Makes an E-Rig “Beginner Friendly”?
One of the hardest things to get comfortable with when you first start dabbing is an open flame from a torch and dabbing temperature. Dabbing setups also tend to have a few moving parts which complicates, what piece goes where? What connects to what?
Electric dab rigs are beginner friendly because they are all in one battery powered devices that you do not need a torch to operate. The more simple designs feature a few preset temperature settings, taking the guesswork out of dabbing temperature.
They usually have only one button, with a series of clicks you can change temperature, initiate heating cycles, power it on and off, and even check battery life. These types of devices heat up to temperature in under 60 seconds, with a quick load atomizer / coil. Making your dabbing process quick and easy no matter where you are.
#1 Top Pick - Best Overall for Beginners
New Puffco Peak Onyx Electric Dab Rig
- Price Range: $219.99 (A little on the pricey side.)
- Heat up Time: 20-25 Seconds
Why its beginner Friendly:
This is an easy to use luxury type of electric dab rig, its design is basic enough for a new user with upgraded features to deliver a top tier dabbing experience. It has one button, 4 temperature settings, a 3D heating atomizer, haptic feedback (vibrates when it's up to temp), and a 2 year manufacturer warranty.
What We Love:
- The puffco peaks heating technology is exceptional and operates on a temperature feedback loop, this just means it wont over heat your atomizer when you are running back to back sessions. So you don't have to worry about breaking your atomizer because of high temps, and you don't have to worry about overheating your dabs.
- Long lasting atomizer, it should last you anywhere from 3 months to a year with proper maintenance and cleaning.
- Its height is 6.8 inches which is taller than most portable electric dab rigs but it's still super portable.
- Gives you the puffco experience without all the extra bells and whistles of the peak pro, high quality design without the confusing layout.
Drawbacks:
- More expensive when it comes to a basic model of an electric dab rig. Although it's a bit more expensive than other electric dab rig options, you will need less atomizer replacements in the long run. So it's more of an initial outlay, but you’ll have less expenses when it comes to maintenance versus other electric dab rigs on the market.
Best For:
- Beginners that want a long lasting premium device that do not mind spending a little extra at the start.

#2 Budget Friendly Pick - Best Value for New Users
Pulsar SeshGear Dabtron 2.0 Electric Dab Rig
- Price Range: $79.99
- Heat Up Time: 15-30 Seconds
Why its Beginner Friendly: We believe that this rig is beginner friendly because of its very basic design, its very similar looking to the Lookah Dragon Egg with better quality parts. The bottom base of this electric dab rig, the bubbler portion, is actually made of heavy duty plastic instead of glass, so it's a bit more forgiving if you drop it by chance.
The dabtron has one button and a digital display which shows you the temperature setting you are on, it'll literally read high medium and low, instead of a colored light which may be confusing for some. It’s equipped with a 360 atomizer like the puffco peak for a fully vaporized dab even if you accidentally put your dab on the side of the chamber instead of the bottom.
What We Love:
- The dabtron 2.0 has a pretty big battery to provide you with a good amount of sessions before it dies on you.
- A 360 atomizer that heats on all sides is much easier to work with when it comes to dab placement compared to other electric dab rigs that only heat the bottom.
- This electric dab rig is only 5 inches in height so it keeps its portability without sacrificing quality and battery size.
- It is equipped with a cubic zirconia mouthpiece so that the flavor of your dab vapors aren’t tainted by plastics or other types of materials.
Drawbacks:
- Were a fan of the cubic zirconia mouthpiece on the dabtron 2.0, however the percolator and the bubbler portion is made out of acrylic plastic which is ehhhh. Although this makes these two parts extremely durable, it's just not the best material to see on an electric dab rig.
Best for:
- Beginners that want portability, high-quality, without breaking the bank.

#3 Most Portable Pick - Best for On the Go Beginners
Lookah Dragon Egg Electric Dab Rig
- Price Range: $79.99
- Heat Up Time: 10-30 Seconds
Why it's Beginner Friendly: The Dragon Egg is extremely beginner friendly, all you need to do is take it out of the box and you're good to start. Its lower chamber/ water bubbler is made of perspex which is plexiglas so that it will not break on you easily. This electric dab rig is compatible with 710 coils, they are made of crushed quartz which is pretty much the standard type of coil atomizer for most inexpensive dab rigs.
There is only one button on the Dragon Egg, it's small, portable and easy to use with one hand. Also, the carb cap is connected to the device so you don't have to worry about losing it or moving it around. Simply load your dab, close the cap, press a button and inhale. It doesn't get easier than this!
What We Love:
- One of the features we like about the dragon egg is that there are plenty of different 710 coils to choose from, they all have a different design to give you a different experience.
- The coils compatible with this device are super easy to find, you won't have to search endless websites for new coils, you can actually get them here!
- The carb cap is attached and magnetic so you won't lose it even when you're on the go!
- Portable and small, only around 6 inches in height with an all glass mouthpiece, and plexiglas bubbler components so that they don't break.
Drawbacks:
- Since this device uses crushed quartz coils, these coils need to be replaced pretty frequently. You can expect to replace these coils at least once per week, sometimes even sooner depending on how often you use it.
- Crushed quartz is harder to clean thoroughly, the taste will not always be favorable. If you're big on flavor you’re probably best going for a different device with a different style coil.
Best for:
- Beginners that want a more discreet portable option that is easy to travel with.

#4 Easiest To Clean - Best for Low Maintenance Users
Ispure Daab Blitz Induction Electric Dab Rig
- Price Range: $149.99
- Heat Up Time: 30-45 Seconds
Why it's Beginner Friendly: The Ispure Daab Blitz is not your normal electric dab rig, it's actually an induction dab rig. This just means it uses a different heating method to vaporize your concentrate which isn't direct heat, it's more indirect by heating up metal which THEN heats up your dab. Since this rig is induction (indirect heat) working as a temporary preventative measure for burning your dabs when using higher temps. The buttons are at the top of the device away from the sides so they won't get sticky or stuck. Each piece can be removed from the Blitz for easy cleaning without having to be super careful with what you're doing.
Since this is an induction rig, you don't have to replace any sort of atomizers or coils, there is just a glass bowl that is dropped into the heating chamber used for dabbing. Again you're not screwing anything in, unscrewing, or replacing anything. The only way you would need to replace this bowl is if it cracks or if you're running your device at a temp that is way too high causing your dab to run onto the glass. This is both the lowest maintenance and the biggest bang for your buck when it comes to electric dab rigs.
What We Love:
- This electric dab rig can be charged through its usb-c port or you can use an external charger for the included 18650 batteries. Yes, this device has removable batteries making it perfect for camping trips or festivals, you can swap out the batteries with fully charged ones whenever you need to.
- Induction heating is the most accurate and precise heating available to electric dab rigs, you are getting the exact temperature you set with this device.
- The Ispire Blitz requires very little maintenance, does not use an atomizer or coil which would need to be replaced frequently.
- Almost all the parts involved in this device's setup can be removed from the base, so the water bubbler, the mouthpiece, the glass bowls, the batteries, the percolator and the carb cap can be removed for cleaning or easy replacements.
Drawbacks:
- Induction rigs might be a little intimidating for beginners, even if this device is simplified to the max.
- Since it has a lot of parts that are removable, beginners might get a little confused as to which part goes where.
- The precise temperature control is an awesome feature, but for those just starting out they might be clueless as to which temperature they should start with.
Best For:
- Beginners that want the lowest maintenance possible, with easy cleaning when it comes to separate parts and the removable bowls.

#5 Most Customizable Beginner Option - Best for Curious Learners
Dr Dabber Switch 2 Induction Dab Rig
- Price Range: $419.99
- Heat Up Time: 5-30 seconds
Why it's Beginner Friendly: Alright I know what you're thinking, the price tag isn't “beginner friendly” if you are just looking to get your feet wet with an electric dab rig then this probably isnt the best device for you. However, if you are a beginner but you are eager to learn and experiment with different dabbing modes and materials, then this is the type of device that will grow with you. Like the Ispure Blitz, this electric dab rig is also an induction rig with indirect heating to your quartz cup. It comes with the same great beginner dabbing experience youll get with the blitz but in a more upgraded high quality package.
There is one button on the gripping portion of this device with a plus and minus button right under it to adjust temperature. The quartz bowl or bucket is 20mm wide so it can take on small dabs or larger dabs without a problem. Again, you aren't changing out atomizers or coils, just the bucket insert when you have to because it's damaged or chazzed!
What we Love:
- As previously mentioned, this device is one that will grow with you if you are open to experimenting with different dabbing modes and materials. You won't have to buy a new rig within a couple months when you outgrow a more basic model.
- There are 4 different dabbing materials to choose from so you can swap out the bowls whenever you'd like, you can choose between quartz, silicon carbide, sapphire, and there is even a titanium insert.
- The switch 2 comes with 3 different dabbing modes to mimic different types of dabbing styles, like ascending which gradually rises to temp, descending which starts high and slowly goes down in temp, and then steady which keeps your desired temp the entire time you are dabbing.
- It has a built-in infrared sensor to read your exact temperature, giving you full control over your dabbing sessions.
Drawbacks:
- The dr dabber switch 2 is an amazing device with a lot of features, however its features might be a little too complicated and advanced for beginners.
- This device is larger than most electric dab rigs, we heard that a smaller version is in the talks and should be available soon!
Best For:
- Beginners that want a device they won't outgrow within 6 months, those that are okay with experimenting with their wax.

How To Load Your First Electric Dab Rig
Step by Step
- You should always charge your new dabbing device fully before attempting to use it, make sure your device is completely charged.
- Remove the water bubbler and fill it with water up to the fill line.
- Run a dry cycle to remove any excess manufacturing residue off of your coil / atomizer prior to using it.
- Put the water bubbler back onto your device and then load your atomizer/ coil after it has cooled down to room temp again. (If your coil is underneath the glass bubbler like the unicorn mini, make sure to load the coil prior to placing the water bubbler back onto your device.)
- Once your dab is loaded, your water bubbler is back onto the device, you can then initiate a heating cycle. Most electric dab rigs have a sound, vibrate, or light up once they are heated up to temperature ready for you to inhale.
Pro Tip: Start at a lower temperature and move up in temp later down the line, lower temperatures are less harsh on your throat and lungs which is more ideal for beginners.
How to Clean and Maintain Your E-Rig
A clean electric dab rig will make your dabs taste better, lengthen the lifespan of your electric dab rig and you are less likely to experience any major unfixable issues. You should always practice basic cleanings after you are done with your session.
Basic Cleaning:
- Use a cotton swab dipped in iso alcohol to clean out the atomizer when you are finished dabbing with your electric dab rig for a little while.
Weekly Cleaning:
- Remove your water bubbler piece from your rig and dump out the water, give it a good swish prior to refilling it with clean water.
- If your atomizer can be soaked in alcohol, you can soak it in alcohol for an hour and then rinse it with water. Allow the atomizer to fully dry before attempting to use it again.
- Wipe the outside battery portion of your device with an alcohol wipe to get rid of any sticky sections, especially around the button.
Monthly Deep Cleaning:
- For a deep cleaning you can get a little extra with this process, start with removing your water bubbler, empty out the water and soak it in cleaning solution or iso alcohol with salt to remove any stuck on reclaim.
- After a month or so of consistent use, you should probably replace your atomizer. After cleaning you can inspect the atomizer for any damage or out of place pieces, if your atomizer still looks okay for use, you can continue using it. If there is no damage but the taste is horrendous, it’s best to replace it.
- Check the charging port and the atomizer connectors on the base for residue, clean out these sections if necessary.
Common Beginner Mistakes to Avoid
- Flooding Your Atomizer or Coil - You would want to dab small amounts that are vaporized fully when your heating cycle is completed. Loading too much wax into your atomizer might cause it to leak into your device and onto the electrical components causing your device to die out earlier than expected.
- Starting at the Highest Temp Possible - You should only move up to the highest temp on your device when you are already familiar with dab size, and your preset temperature settings. Starting off high doesnt necessarily mean better, you might end up burning through your wax and kill your atomizer in the process.
- Not Taking Maintenance Seriously - Cleaning is a big part of maintaining a good clean experience, once you skip out on cleaning your dabs never really taste the same. This will also lead you to need atomizer replacements more frequently.
- Letting Your Device Reach 0% Battery - Once your device battery is low its best to charge it, you shouldn't let the battery completely die before charging. This will cause your battery to get shotty within months instead of years.
