The center core, often called the quartz core banger, has an incorporated dab insert at the base of its bucket. The "quartz core" is a small "cylinder" of quartz that sits at the base of the banger bucket and resembles a dab insert. Other names for it include "center core" and "core reactor."

In our comparison of center core bangers with standard quartz bucket bangers, we discovered that the inclusion of the quartz cylinder in the former improved the banger's heat retention.
