How To Take Low Temp Dabs: Flavorful and Smooth Dabbing

Low-temperature dabs, often referred to as "low temp dabs," are a popular way to consume all types of concentrates. Whether it be wax, shatter, or rosin, concentrates contain terpenes that activate at lower temperatures and burn at high-temperatures. Here's a breakdown of what low-temperature dabs are, their benefits, and the best way to take them.

Low Temp Dabbing 101

What Are Low-Temperature Dabs?

Low-temperature dabs involve heating your dabbing surface (such as a quartz banger or titanium nail) to a lower temperature range. To take a low-temp dab, heat your dab nail about 400°F (157°C) to 450°F (232°C). This is much cooler than the temperatures used for traditional dabbing, which can range around 500°F to 650°F Max.

Benefits of Low-Temperature Dabs:

Preservation of Terpenes: Terps or Terpenes are the compounds present inside of your concentrates. They are responsible for the unique flavors, aromas, and even certain effects. Low-temperature dabs help preserve these delicate compounds, allowing you to enjoy the full effects and flavors from each dab.

Smooth and Flavorful Hits: Low-temperature dabs produce smoother, less harsh hits that are easier on the throat and lungs. The reduced heat not only minimizes the risk of combustion but it also reduces the formation of harmful byproducts.

Enhanced Flavor Profile: Lower temperatures call attention to the notes of different cannabis strains. This enhances your overall dabbing experience.

Less Waste: When you dab at lower temperatures, your concentrates are less likely to burn before you can inhale them. This results in less waste and more efficient use of your concentrates!

How To Take Low Temp Dabs?

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to low temp dab:

The Items you Will Need:

  • Dab Rig:
    • This can be any water pipe of your choosing. An ideal dab rig should require little water while providing max filtration.
  • Quartz Banger:
    • We suggest a Quartz Banger when taking lower temperature dabs. The ideal banger for low temp dabs with a torch would be an opaque bottom banger. These types of bangers allow more heat transfer through the bottom and will work with a variety of inserts.
    • When using an enail, the type of quartz banger doesn't really matter. An electric dab nail will optimally heat your quarts banger to temperature every time! Concentrate: Your preferred wax, shatter, rosin, or other concentrate.
  • Heat Source:
    • Dab Torch- You can use a torch for low temperature dabs, however we recommend using a dab thermometer. A dab thermometer will help you read your banger temperature accurately instead of guessing what temp its heated to!
    • Electric Dab Rig - If you'd like to take low temp dabs using an erig, make sure it has precise temperature control. An electric dab rig with 3 preset temperature settings will not guarantee a low temperature dab! A great example of a device with precise temperature control would be the Carta 2. Set it and forget it.
    • E-Nail, Electric Nail - This would be the best device for low temperature dabs since every enail offers precise temperature control. Look into getting LCD enail that shows both the set temperature and coil temperature. This will help you to accurately asses your banger temperature!
  • Timer: A timer or a smartphone with a timer function.

Safety first; make sure you have a safe and stable surface for your rig and keep flammable objects away.

Low Temp Dabbing Steps:

1. Prepare Your Dab Rig: Fill the water pipe with the recommended amount of water. Place your dab nail onto the joint of the water pipe.

2. Prepare Your Concentrate: Use your dab tool to measure out the desired amount of concentrate.

3. Heat the Nail: Using any of the three heat sources mentioned above, begin to heat your nail or atomizer. If you are using an enail or electric dab rig set your temperature to around 400°F to 450°F. When using a dab torch and a thermometer, heat your banger to 400-450 degrees.

4. Cool Down the Nail: After heating allow the nail cool for a specific time period. The ideal cool-down time varies based on your nail and personal preference but typically ranges from 20 to 45 seconds.

5. Apply the Concentrate: Take your dabber with the concentrate and touch it to the inside of the nail. Slowly rotate the dabber to ensure all the concentrate makes contact with the hot surface. This will vaporize the concentrate.

6. Use the Carb Cap: Place the carb cap over the nail to create a sealed chamber. A carb cap helps trap heat, making it easier for the concentrate to vaporize.

7. Inhale Slowly: Start inhaling slowly while keeping the carb cap on. This allows you to draw in the vapor at the right pace. Continue inhaling until all the vapor is cleared.

8. Exhale and Enjoy: Exhale and savor the flavorful and smooth vapor from your low temp dab.

Best Way to Take Low-Temperature Dabs:

  • Invest in Quality Equipment:
    • To enjoy the benefits of low-temperature dabs, it's crucial to have the right equipment.
    • Opt for a quartz banger; they excel at heat retention and delivering clean, pure flavors.
    • Use a temperature controlled dabbing device like an electric dab nail or electronic nail instead of a torch.
    • Pair your dab nail with a carb cap it is an important part in achieving a perfect low-temp dab. Dab caps helps trap heat, creating a convection effect that vaporizes your concentrate more efficiently. It also allows you to control the airflow, ensuring you get the most out of your dabs.
  • Timing Your Dabs:
    • After heating the dabbing surface, wait about 20-45 seconds before adding your concentrate.
  • Experiment:
    • The ideal low-temperature dab can vary depending on your specific concentrate, type of quartz banger, and personal preference. Start with a lower temperature and gradually increase by 10 degrees it until you find your sweet spot.
  • Practice Patience:
    • Low-temperature dabs may require a longer time to heat and produce vapor than high-temperature dabs. Be patient and take the extra time for your concentrates to vaporize. Allowing the extra time for your dab banger to reach desired temperature ensures you're getting the most out of your dab.
  • Keep It Clean:
    • Regularly clean your dab nail and dab rig to maintain optimal performance and flavor. Residue buildup can affect both taste and temperature accuracy.

By following these steps and experimenting with temperature, you can enjoy the full flavored smooth rips with low-temperature dabs. Low temp is a more flavorful and efficient way to consume concentrates, making it a popular choice among dabbers!

Are Low Temp Dabs Healthy?

It is essential to remember that any form of inhaling substances, even vapor, comes with inherent risks. While low-temperature dabs are generally considered safer, they are not considered "healthy". The long-term health effects of dabbing, whether at low or high temperatures, are still not fully understood due to limited research.

To minimize potential health risks when dabbing, it's crucial to use high-quality equipment, clean your dab rig and dab nail regularly, and consume concentrates in moderation. If you have specific health concerns or conditions, it's best to consult with a healthcare professional before dabbing or using any cannabis-related products.
