What is a Nectar Collector Enail? How is it Used?

A Nectar Collector Enail is essentially an electric nail dabbing device that is used with a nectar collector instead of a dab rig. It's a pretty simple and straightforward enail setup, that removes the big bulky rig out of the mix.

Now, most of us are familiar with how a nectar collector works, but for the ones that don't, we’ll break it down below.

Anatomy of a Nectar Collector

Anatomy of A Nectar Collector

As you can see from the photo above, when dabbing with a nectar collector the process is much more streamlined. The nectar collector works similarly to a straw which draws in your dab vapors as you inhale through the mouthpiece, at the same time your dab is being vaporized by the heated nail. This is why they are commonly referred to as “dab straws” or “honey straws”.

Nectar Collectors come in all different shapes, sizes, and styles. Some are designed with an integrated dab nail, while others have a dab nail that's removable. There are recycler bubblers, inline bubblers, glycerin tops, ones with built in reclaim catchers and much more to choose from! Making these devices as customizable as dab rigs!

Different Types of Nectar Collectors - What is a Nectar Collector Enail?

How Do I Use a Nectar Collector Enail?

First things first you would want to connect all the parts of your enail.

1. Set Up Your Enail Controller

  • Plug the power cord into its designated slot on the enail controller and then plug the other end of the power cord into an outlet. Please make sure your enail is plugged into a wall outlet and not a power strip!
  • Attach your enail coil to your dab nail. This step can be different depending on what type of set up you purchased. Here are the different coil connections that can be used.
    • Titanium Dome Nail:

      • For this type of dab nail, you simply unscrew the bottom dome piece from the rest of the dab nail body. You slip your coil over the body and then screw the dome piece back into the nail. This is the most secure nectar collector enail connection there is!
    • Standard Nail:

      • Standard nectar collector nails are available in all different types of materials, like titanium, quartz and ceramic. These types of nails are not 100 percent built for enail coils. However, before domed dab nails were available, people would use these types of nails with an o-clamp at the end to hold the coil in place.
      • This is not the safest or the most practical way to attach an enail coil, but if you are looking to experiment with different dabbing materials this might be your go to!

2. Prepare your Nectar Collector Top

  • If your nectar collector top has a percolator you can fill it with water. While filling your top with water make sure the water is a few millimeters above the percolator holes/slits.
    • You can do a dry test to see if you have the appropriate amount of water, inhale through the mouthpiece without taking a dab. If you get water in your mouth, pour some out, if you're not getting enough bubbles, put some more water in!

Prepare your Nectar Collector Top for your Enail

  • If your nectar collector top has glycerin in it, you can place it into the freezer for a couple of hours until frozen.
    • Make sure that your top sits out at room temperature for a little while before using it for dabbing. Extremely cold temperatures (frozen glass top) mixed with extremely hot temperatures (heated dab nail) can cause your glass to crack.
  • If you have a standard glass top or a silicone one, you can simply move on to attach your dab nail!

3. Attach Your Dab Nail to Your Top

For this step you will need to take a look at your connection point on your nectar collector top. Some of them will have a screw on connector and some of them will have a standard joint like a dab rig.

  • For a standard joint, like one you would see on a dab rig, simply insert your dab nail into your nectar collector top and secure it using a keck clip.
  • With a screw in connector, just screw the nail into the top and it should be secure from there!

4. Initiate a Heating Cycle on Your Enail Controller

  • Set your controller temp anywhere around 480-540 degrees fahrenheit.
    • After your controller reaches your desired temperature, wait around 1-3 minutes for your dab nail to fully heat up before dabbing.

5. Prepare / Dose Your Dabs!

  • Most people tend to dab right out of a silicone or glass jar when using a nectar collector. You can also place your dab onto a silicone dab mat if you are looking to be specific with your dosing.

6. Dabbing Using an Enail Nectar Collector

dabbing with a nectar collector - how to

  • Hold your nectar collector TOP in your hand, however you feel comfortable. Make sure to keep your hand away from the heated dab nail and the joint.
  • Touch the dab nail to your concentrates and slowly start to inhale.
    • It's best to lightly tap or drag your dab with the heated nail, you want to avoid dunking your dab nail into your concentrates. This can cause you to burn through your dabs instead of vaporizing, or it can clog your nectar collector.

Which Nectar Collector Enail Is Right For Me?

Things To Look for:

When purchasing a nectar collector enail it usually comes complete as a set, it is important that you understand the different nail options, connection points, and tops you can choose from!

This is especially important if you plan to purchase different attachments for your enail further down the road.

Dab Nail Connection:

  • The screw connectors are the safest and most secure way to connect your dab nail to your nectar collector. However, this connection might make it harder to find compatible tops for your dab nail later on. Most nectar collectors have a standard joint, like a dab rig does!

Coil Connection:

  • Not all nectar collector dab nails are the same, some will have a different bottom opening diameter, this might make things tricky when purchasing a new nail for your coil. Measure out your tip prior to purchasing any new dab nails for your enail!
  • Depending on the dab nail you'd like to use the coil connection may be different, if youre going for a standard nail you will need a clamp to hold your enail coil up! O-clamps will work but they are not ideal!

Percolator Type:

  • You would want to look for a simple percolator or one that is meant for filtering without too much cooling. An inline perc or a recycler will work perfect for this type of set up! Try to stay away from nectar collectors with complicated percolator designs like a tree arm which will provide too much cooling.

Joint Sizing:

  • Nectar collectors usually come in two different sizes, either a 10mm or a 14mm. The most standard being the 14mm which is similar to dab rigs. Dab nails with a 10mm joint fitting tend to have a slimmer tube, a 10mm nail will not fit a 10mm nectar collector coil, the joint and the diameter of the tube are completely different measurements.

Dabbing Temp, Concentrate Type:

  • Most dab straw enails come with a titanium nail which heats up to temperature rather quickly and retains temperature for a solid amount of time. Dabbing temperature can be vastly different from person to person because it's really based on preference.
  • Generally with a device of this caliber you would want to start off low, and increase your temperature in increments until you get the dabbing experience you are looking for.

A good rule of thumb is to start off around 450-550 degrees and adjust your temperature from there.

Cleaning a Nectar Collector

Cleaning a nectar collector enail is just like cleaning any other device or glass piece. First you would want to start off by letting your enail setup cool completely before attempting to touch anything with your hands.

  • Start by disassembling your nectar collector top from your dab nail. If you have a keck clip in place remove it or if you have a screw fitting unscrew your top.
  • You can then use a solution to clean your glass or silicone top, make sure the cleaner used is suitable for your material.
  • Soak and rinse formulas can be poured into your nectar collector, just like water and left to sit until it's ready to rinse out.
  • Use a cleaning brush to remove any excess reclaim from your nectar collector top.

Next, remove your nail from your enail coil. This process is different depending on what type of dab nail you are using!

  • Once your dab nail is removed, you can repeat the process mentioned above. Use a solution to clean your nail and a cleaning brush to remove any excess residue.
  • If your dab nail is stuck onto your enail coil, you will need to heat your enail coil slightly to loosen any oils that have accumulated and hardened over time. You do not have to use extreme temps for this process, just a light heating cycle should do the trick!

Now you can clean any surrounding accessories. Reclaim relief wipes are alcohol soaked wipes that are extremely useful when cleaning electronic accessories like the front of your controller box, or your enail coil!

Best Practices:

  1. Keep your dabbing temperatures on the low to mid side when using a titanium nail with a glass top. Titanium nails can get hot enough to crack the joint section of your glass nectar collector bubbler!
  2. After your dabbing session is done, be sure to burn off any excess residue left over on your titanium nail tip. Oils will harden and get stuck over time which will make it a HUGE pain to clean.
  3. Turn off your enail controller when you are done using it, keeping it on for extended periods of time can cause your coil to go out prematurely.
  4. Using an enail coil stand is super helpful when using a nectar collector enail. The stand gives you a safe place to put your nectar collector as you're prepping your dab or in between dabs so that you don't burn anything around your heated nail.
