The Origin of the Term “710”

710 and 420 might look like a random assortment of three numbers but they each have their own meaning. The reason why 710 is used in reference to dabs is because 710 upside down spells out “OIL”. This term caught on when dabbing first started gaining popularity back in 2011 and it became a universal code for dabbers from there on out.

Concentrate, dabs, wax, has many names, but in its heated up form or when it's extracted from flower, its consistency is similar to that of oil. On the flip side, 420 has a more interesting story. In the 1970’s there was a group of high school kids that would meet up after school to smoke. They would use the code “420” because that is roughly the time that they would meet up, at 4:20pm. The inside joke eventually spread throughout different friend groups, later picked up by grateful dead fans and other cannabis communities. Eventually making its way to high times where it became an equivalent term for cannabis use.

July 10th (7/10) and April 20th (4/20) are now celebrated as cannabis holidays, July tenth obviously for dabbing and April twentieth for smoking flower!
