How to Make a Homemade Dab Rig - Ways to Dab without a Rig

The safest most practical way to dab is to just use a dab rig that you purchased from a store, since all the materials are heat resistant and safe for use! But hey, we all need to improvise sometimes.

What You’ll Need To Make a Homemade Dab Rig

Hopefully you have these common household items around, if not well try to walk you through a different way to utilize your dabs later on!

• Mason Jar with Lid
• Drill with Drill Bits
• Some sort of Metal or Silicone Tubing
• Quartz Banger or Dab Nail

Please understand that some materials might be hazardous to your health, you would want to use materials that are food grade or medical grade if possible. Glass can also be used as a downstem if you have one available, however keep in mind glass is only resistant to heat. It can shatter if it's heated to a high enough temperature!

Step by Step Instructions: Homemade Dab Rig Setup

Okay here is where innovation needs to kick in.

Start by prepping the top of your mason jar lid. You need to drill two holes across from each other, make sure your drill bit is the size of your silicone or metal tubing!

Create slits on your tubing, this is obviously only applicable to silicone, you can cut small slits or holes at the bottom of your tubing. Try to get it so the slits are open. Create one slanted slit and another slanted slit to mimic the look of this type of downstem!

Place your tubing inside the mason jar top, also place another piece of silicone tubing into the second hole. This will serve as your mouthpiece!

Fill your mason jar with water and screw on the lid with the attached tubing back onto the jar.

Praying that your tubing is wide enough, you can now attach your banger or titanium nail to the silicone tubing that has the premade slits!

From there, you can enjoy a dab!

How to Use Your Homemade Dab Rig

You can use your homemade dab rig the same way you would use a regular dab rig, make sure you do not heat your glass to too high of a temperature to avoid shattering and try your best not to heat any silicone parts over 500 degrees!

Start by heating your nail or banger up to temperature, load in your dab, and inhale from the mouthpiece!

Different Ways to Dab without a Dab Rig:

Infuse Your Joints or Bowls

This is one of the most preferred ways to use up your concentrates if you're in a bind without a rig. You can simply sprinkle some of your concentrates on top of your flower!

Adding concentrate to your flower will create a more intense effect while still keeping things clean and safe for consumption!

Edibles

You can make edibles!

First things first, you would want to make sure your dabs are decarbed already. In order to do that you need to heat them at a low temperature to get your thca to turn into thc.

Once that's done you can begin infusing it into oil! It's better to use oil high in fat when it comes to concentrate infusions. From there, you can bake or cook away!

Dabbing with a Bong or Flower Bowl

Again, this method of dabbing really isn't ideal since glass will crack or shatter at higher temperatures. However, sometimes we just need to work with the things we have!

If you find yourself with a broken dab rig, but you still have a bong laying around you can use your bowl! Heat your bowl up slightly, make sure you are rotating it so that it's heated evenly. Be weary of high temperatures to avoid cracking.

Once your bowl is heated to temperature, place your dab onto the inner sides only! If you drop a dab inside the bowl, it might not even touch the heated surface and fall directly into your bong which is pretty wasteful.

If your banger or your dab nail are still in tip top shape, just plug it into your bong and use it like you would your dab rig.

Hot Knife - Two Heated Butter Knives

Dabbing with two knives sounds pretty.. extreme. But desperate times call for desperate measures! You can place two knives on a burner. Wait until they are heated up to temperature, then place your dab on one knife and press your dab with the other knife. Inhale the dab vapor using a straw or something similar to a funnel so that your vapors don't escape!

There are other ways to dab using other household items and various different methods, we suggest staying away from things like aluminum foil or spoons. These methods may come in handy if you are REALLY on your last leg, but keep in mind the very best way to dab is using equipment specifically designed for dabbing!

Why a Real Dab Rig is Better

Using a dab rig or other dabbing devices made for dabbing will always be a better option because these devices do not open you up to potentially harmful chemicals. These items are made to be heated to high temperatures, they are made to last, and made to provide quality full flavored potent dabs.

In the end, using a rig that isn't.. “rigged”, will always be your best bet!
