First things first, and this question might seem dumb but it's important.

Did your vape pen work before? Is it new out of the box or has it been working perfectly fine and now, it's completely dead?

This question is important because it lets you know if you should start a warranty claim with the manufacturer or if it's a quick simple fix you can complete on your own. By the end of this process you should have your answer.

Vape Pen Not Working - Charge For 1 Hour Quick Fix

If your vape pen does not work and it's brand new out of the box complete these steps below.

  • Place your pen on the charger, allow it to charge at least one hour before attempting to turn it on. If you don't see a light illuminated on your vape pen after an hour, you probably want to start a warranty claim.
  • If you DO see a light illuminated on the device after charging it for an hour, then you're in business. All you need to do at this point is, click the power button five times fast to get it to turn on.

Button presses get a little hazy sometimes, especially when clicking the button a series of times you might miscount 4 clicks for 5 or the clicks may not register fully because you are clicking too fast. Make sure to take your time, but don't go too slow. Five full uniform clicks WILL turn your device on, I promise you don't have to click it 75 times in quick succession to get it to turn on hahah!

If your dab pen was working perfectly fine before and then it randomly stopped working, then you should pay attention to flashing lights on your device.

How many times is your vape pen flashing?

The number of flashes mean different things, so it's important to note the number of flashes.

If your vape pen is flashing it can be indicative of a dead battery or a poor connection issue. Five flashes usually means the battery is dead and three flashes usually means the coil is not connecting to your device.

Vape Pen Not Working - Flashing five times

However, some manufacturers have these numbers reversed where five flashes indicates a coil connection issue and three flashes is a dead battery. It's important to make yourself familiar with your device (possibly your user manual if you have the time to read through it) so that you know which indicates which!

Certain devices may flash up to ten times for a coil or battery issue, if you have product specific questions please contact us!

If you suspect a coil issue there are a few ways to fix this:

  • First check the coil and see if it's screwed into your pen correctly. Sometimes a lopsided coil will not connect to the base of your pen the way that it should, causing an error. Unscrew your coil and then screw it back into your device to see if this fixes it.
  • If you're still not having any luck, check to see how tight the coil is screwed in. Sometimes if it's too tight the connection will not register, try unscrewing it slightly to see if that works.
  • Check your connection points on both the coil and your battery, make sure they are completely clean. If there is any residue or buildup in between them it might stop your coil from making a solid connection. Use a cotton swab, slightly dampened with alcohol to clean off your connection points and then try again!

Vape Pen Not Working - Coil Not Working

If all else fails, you might just need to replace your coil! You can find some new coils right here at e-nail.com!

After replacing the coil, if the issue still persists, then it could possibly be an issue with your battery. You should be able to start a warranty claim with the manufacturer as long as you've had your device for less than 3 months. (Some warranties are for 30 days - some are for 6 months)

Alright so, what if you're not having a coil issue, or a turning on issue, your pen isn't flashing, but your battery is dying out quickly? It's working fine but after a couple of uses you find yourself asking yourself -

Why is my vape pen battery dying so fast?

Vape Pen Not Working - Why Is my Dab Pen Dying So Fast?

The first thing you would need to consider is your battery size. Vape pens/dab pens are meant to be portable and pocket friendly. These devices typically do not have a huge battery because they need to be small and discreet!

Dab pens usually have a 350mah-950mah battery, perfect for medicating throughout your day and while you are on the go. A vape pen’s battery should last anywhere from 5-10 dabs on a single charge.

Now, there are a few things that will make your pen die faster.

  • Temperature Setting: The highest temperature setting on your device obviously uses the most power, using this setting consistently will make your battery die faster.
  • Sesh Mode/Preheat Mode: Most vape pens have some sort of automated mode that uses consistent power for 15-30 seconds at a time to heat your coil. If you are using this mode more often than not, your battery will not last super long.
  • Back to Back Heating Cycles and Larger Dabs - If your dab isn't fully vaporized the first time and then you're back at it with a second heating cycle to clear it out, yup you guessed it. Your battery will die faster.

Although, if you've had your device for a while and you are just now experiencing issues with it dying quickly it might mean that you need a new device. Lithium ion batteries can be charged anywhere from 500-1000 times before their capacity starts to decrease. Which roughly translates to 6 months - 3 years of use, this significantly changes depending on how many times a day you charge your device!

If all is well but you feel like you are ..

Barely getting a hit out of your vape pen?

Vape Pen Not Working - Not Getting a Hit

This can be due to a number of reasons. The main one being airflow obstruction.

  • Check your device, most vape pens will have a few airflow holes located underneath the tank. Make sure you are not covering these holes with your hand or your fingers! This will make your inhales feel labored and will make it feel like you're barely getting a dab!
  • When was the last time you cleaned your pen? Most dab pens will have some sort of a vapor path. The vapor path needs to be cleaned out from time to time, build up can accumulate and harden within that vapor path causing it to feel clogged.
  • Adjust your inhalation rate! You might be inhaling too hard, pulling your melted dab through your coil instead of allowing it to vaporize. This is called flooding. Once your melted dabs are pulled through and not cleaned out, they will harden and make your inhales feel over exerted.

Vape Pen Not Working - Listening to Power

You can put your ear close to your dab pen and see if the battery is clicking on and the coil is heating up. It should make a sound! If you don't hear anything then it could be because of one of the other issues listed above that is not related to an airflow issue!
