Ultimate Guide to Lookah Seahorse Coils & Tips (2026 Edition)
Since you're here, I would go ahead and assume that you are somewhat familiar with the Lookah Seahorse Pro and Pro Plus. For those that aren't, we'll get into a quick breakdown. The seahorse pro and pro plus are both electric nectar collector devices that are used for vaporizing wax concentrates, known as “dabbing”. These devices are widely recognized for their ease of use, portability, and their versatility!
Its versatility is in part due to the different ways you are able to dab with this device, but also for its coil options. There are five different coil options available, specifically made to work with the seahorse, providing a different type of dabbing experience with each choice! Choosing the right coil tip to match your wax consistency and dabbing habits will get you better flavors, smoother rips, and a longer coil lifespan.
What are Lookah Seahorse Coils?
Lookah seahorse coils have a very distinct design, it's easy to tell what they are and how they're used as soon as you get a good look at them. There is a 510 threaded portion on one end that screws onto the device and then a tube looking section on the other end. A metal wire is what makes contact with the quartz or ceramic tube to heat it up to temperature, once it's heated to temp you can start dabbing!
The word “coil” and “tip” are used interchangeably when referring to seahorse coils. Technically speaking, they are considered tips and the “coil” portion is the embedded heating element (metal wire) that's inside the tip. Whatever you decide to call it is totally up to you they are both correct!
Coils need to be replaced over time, no matter what device you are using. Lookah seahorse coils need to be replaced more frequently than some other devices. For someone that uses their seahorse frequently, you should be replacing your coil at least once every few days. A need for a replacement can be due to a number of reasons, the metal wire can burst with high heat, the coil starts to degrade and break apart, clogging, or the most common reason is that it tastes burnt.
Lookah Seahorse Coil Type I Quartz Coil
The Seahorse Type I coil is the most common type of electric nectar collector coil, lots of different brands use a similar design. It's a crushed quartz tip with a white housing and a 510 thread at the bottom. Crushed quartz provides clean flavors, not as clean as clear quartz, but still provides great vaporization as long as you keep this tip clean!
Lookah Seahorse Coil Type II Dual Ceramic Coil
Ceramic is well known for its gradual rise in heat, this type of coil is great for working with higher temperatures. The seahorse dual ceramic coil is less popular than the other quartz options however it is one of the original coils used with the seahorse, making it well known and loved by many. You won’t get those giant plumes or clouds with a dual ceramic however the flavor is great and the vaporization is efficient!
Lookah Seahorse Coil Type III Ceramic Tube Coil
This is the most durable type of coil made for the seahorse pro and pro plus, it is a ceramic tube coil similar to the coil on the huni badger. The Type III tip provides the smoothest rips out of all the options that are available, it also has the largest surface area to dab off it making each of your dabs seamless with little to no guess work. When using this coil make sure you aren't leaning it too far to the side where your dab is pushed against the entire length of the tip. The very tip of this coil is where the magic is at!
Lookah Seahorse Coil Type IV Quartz Coil
This type of coil’s main dabbing material is crushed quartz like lookahs original seahorse coil type I. The housing has four holes in it to provide more airflow while dabbing, two are positioned closer to the bottom and two are closer to the top. These four holes should remain open for appropriate airflow. Once those holes are closed off by excess wax, this is a sure sign of flooding and you should adjust the forcefulness of your inhales, try to dab a smaller amount of wax, or adjust your temperature.
Lookah Seahorse Coil Type V Quartz Tube Coil
The Type V coil or 5 Coil, also known as the quartz tube coil is the new and improved standard for Lookah devices. It's the most popular tip based on our sales rate and for good reason! This design combines both clear quartz and crushed quartz for more full flavored dabs. With its clear quartz tube, it's easy to see if you are flooding your coil allowing you to adjust your dabs if necessary. A seahorse v coil tip looks and is very appealing, however it is easier to clog than the other options available, so be extra careful with the rate in which you inhale from your mouthpiece and keep this tip extra clean if you can!

Which Lookah Seahorse Coil is the Best?
This is a tough question and it's really based on your personal preference. Most people say they prefer quartz for the best flavor, dual ceramic for the biggest clouds, and tube ceramic for the longest lasting.
Our best overall pick would have to be the Lookah Seahorse V Coil! This coil is one of our very best sellers, offering two separate materials in one coil combination. The tubing of it is clear quartz while the bottom of the tip is crushed quartz offering maximum flavor with perfect temps.
How to Use a Seahorse Coil Properly
- An electric nectar collector needs to be used over and over again in order to be used properly. Instead of sinking the hot tip in your dabs, gently touch the edge of it to them. This will keep your coil tip from getting clogged. The fumes get into the coil through the hole in the tip as your dab melts.
- If you submerge the tip of your electric nectar catcher, it will get clogged. Your coil should have a center hole that lets air flow easily through it. This lets your dab vapor get into the mouthpiece. You shouldn't dab with the middle of the coil tip, but only the sides.
- As soon as the tip hits your concentrate while dabbing, it will start to cool down. At the first point of touch, the temperature drops the fastest. Your vaporization rate will go up if you change the position or touch point of the coil tip.
- Think of your dab as a puddle of water. As soon as your toe hits the edge, move it away until it dries. Do the same thing with your heel next. When you dab, you should use the same method with your electric nectar collection.
- As you inhale, move one side of the electric nectar collector coil away from your dab slowly until the amount of vapor you're making drops. Move on to the next part of the coil when you're done with the last one. This keeps the coil hot all the way through, which helps your dab clear quickly and evenly.
- It's important to make sure that your coil tip's soaking rate and vaporization rate work well together for the best dab. Coils that are too wet can lead to bad vapor quality, clogging, and dabs that burn up.
Common Mistakes that Burn Up Your Coil
- The seahorse pro and the pro plus operate on two different modes, one is manual where you are physically pressing the power button down and the other is automatic, also known as “sesh mode”. If you are only using your device on sesh mode you should be in the clear since it only heats for up to 30 seconds. However, if you are running multiple back to back sessions, not allowing your device to cool down in between dabs, this will cause the metal wire on the inside to break.
- The second biggest culprit is for those that push their coil into their concentrate, please keep in mind this doesn't provide the vaporization needed for a full dab. Instead this will clog your coil causing half melted wax to draw into the center, it'll stay there and harden which ultimately makes it impossible to draw from.
- As stated above, melted concentrates will begin to harden after it starts to cool down. With these specific types of coil, especially the crushed quartz coils, you should complete a burn off cycle after each session. Essentially a burn off cycle is initiating a heating cycle on your device without touching it to a dab to burn off the excess concentrate. You'll get a cleaner coil with better flavor this way.
- Both the lookah seahorse pro and the pro plus come with 3-4 different temperature settings. You would want to use the appropriate temperature of the type and amount of concentrate you are attempting to vaporize. Keep in mind that the highest temperature isn't always the best choice for your specific session and constant high temps will cause your coil to go out early.
How to clean Lookah Seahorse Coils
- You should complete a burn off cycle before using your coil to remove any sort of manufacturing debris from it. You should also complete a burn off cycle when your session is done so that any leftover wax doesn't harden and get stuck onto your coil!
- Cleaning a coil with isopropyl or ethyl alcohol is possible, there are some really important steps to follow with this type of cleaning method.
- Remove your coil from the device, drop it into isopropyl or ethanol alcohol and let it soak for about 30 minutes.
- After soaking you can remove the coil from the alcohol and remove any excess residue with a cotton swab or dab wipe.
- Then rinse it completely with water.
- Make sure the coil is COMPLETELY dry before using it again, it's probably best to let it dry for a full 24 hours prior to using it again.
- Once it's connected to your device again, complete a dry burn off cycle to rid of any alcohol residues.
*** PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR COIL IS NOT HOT WHEN SUBMERGING YOUR COIL***
DO NOT DO THESE THINGS:
- Do not stick a cleaning brush inside your coil, there is only one coil you are able to do this with and that would be the ceramic tube coil. Regardless, the cleaning brush should NOT go all the way through the circle 510 thread section of the coil. You do not want to risk disturbing the metal wires in the coil and disconnecting them.
- Do not use any sort of paper clip or metal tools, inside the coil, this also can disrupt the metal wiring or break apart the crushed quartz on the coil.
How Long Do Lookah Coils Last?
The lifespan of a Lookah Seahorse Coil really just depends on how often and how heavily you use your device. A frequent user will need to replace the coil more often than someone that uses their device every once in a while won't have to replace their coil as often. On average you would want to replace the coil every one to four weeks. The tell signs that indicate that you need a coil replacement are a weak vapor stream, a clogged feeling, burnt taste, and heavy dark buildup.
How to Replace a Lookah Seahorse Coil
Make sure that the coil is cool to the touch, once it's no longer hot you can go ahead and unscrew it from the coil base. Once the coil is no longer usable you can dispose of it. Replace the coil by screwing in the new tip onto the coil base.
When screwing the coil onto the device it should feel pretty effortless, make sure the coil is not sitting lopsided and do not force it onto the device. If it's not screwing on comfortably, remove the coil and try again. Make sure you aren't screwing the tip too tight onto the device, this might cause a connection issue.
