Enail Coil FAQ:
An enail coil is a heating element that is connected to the enail controller on one side and the quartz banger or dab nail on the other side. The metal coil at the end wraps around the dab nail or quartz banger to safely, quickly and effectively heat up the banger for dabbing.
If you're accustomed to dabbing with an electric dab rig, think of the enail coil as the small piece of metal wiring inside an atomizer that heats your bucket/insert to the proper temperature. If you prefer the original method of dabbing with a quartz banger and a torch, consider an enail coil to be the "torch" in your setup.
Enail coils consist of four parts: a heavy-duty metal-wrapped wire on one end, a fireproof sheath to protect the internal wires, and an xlr socket at the other end to connect to an enail controller box. Most typical enail coils feature an xlr connector with five distinct pins designated 1-5.
When choosing your enail coil size you are effectively choosing the size of the quartz banger or dab nail as well. Your enail coil size should almost always correlate to the size of your quartz banger or dab nail. To determine the best coil size for you, understanding which banger size is best for you is crucial. This can be determined by understanding your desired dab size. Below is a breakdown of the appropriate size coil for the different dab sizes.
- 20mm Enail Coil / Banger Size:
- Dab Capacity: 0.05-0.2g
- The 20mm enail coil size is generally the smallest size available for an enail. This size is great for beginners, those who take smaller dab due to preference, smaller lung capacity or a propensity to cough from larger dabs. The smaller coil size offers several advantages, like heating up the banger or dab nail quickly due to its smaller size and being efficient and flavorful for smaller dabs. The disadvantages of this smaller size is the smaller dab size capacity and slightly limited banger insert options. inserts.
- 25mm Enail Coil / Banger Size:
- Dab Capacity: 0.10-0.30g
- The 25mm enail coil size is the most popular for a reason, the dab size capacity of a 25mm quartz banger is the most common size of most people who dab. Due to its popularity the banger insert and carb options are the most plentiful, offering maximum customization. It offers a balance of heat retention and concentrate capacity that makes it popular among dabbers. Many inserts can be used for maximum personalization and efficiency.
- 30mm Enail Coil / Banger Size:
- Dab Capacity: 0.20-0.40g
- The 30mm coil size is ideal for those who enjoy slightly larger dabs. When enjoying larger dabs if one were to use a smaller diameter banger, the dab would flood the banger, this flooding prevents the dab from being evenly heated, causes excess reclaim and takes longer to vaporize. 30mm Bangers have many different carb cap and insert options. As opposed to 25mm bangers where the proper terp pearl size is 6mm with a quantity of 2 max, with the 30mm banger one can use up to four 6mm terp pearls.
- 35mm Enail Coil / Banger Size:
- Dab Capacity: 0.30-0.50g
- The largest commonly used banger for an enail is the 35mm diameter size. It is used for pretty large dabs which is great for group sessions or massive solo dabs. It takes longer to heat up but once heated it packs a major punch. With the ability to use any insert its customization capabilities are endless. Choosing the right carb cap is crucial for this banger to find your preferred vapor to air ratio as larger carb caps tend to have larger airflow which can dilute the vapor. This banger size also requires larger lung capacity if being used for solo sessions.
- Flat Enail Coil: Flat coils were popular several years ago as a great option to be used with any banger or nail style, they were primarily used with hybrid dab nails. As the construction of enail coils has progressed they have lessened in popularity with other coils offering a more precise fit to every style of dabbing receptacle, whether titanium enails or bucket bangers these newer coils offer better surface area coverage for faster and more intense heating. Available Size: 26mm
- Axial Enail Coil: The bucket style axial coil heats the bottom and sides of titanium or hybrid nails and bangers. The surface area coverage of an axial coil is hard to beat, with some axial coils being constructed of 6 vertical wraps or more. This tall design covers most of the banger's bucket offering fast, even and consistent heating throughout the entirety of the banger. The axial coil style is by far the most popular and is great for any size dab and is offered in sizes varying from 20mm up to 35mm diameter size. Available in 20mm, 25mm, 30mm and 35mm diameter sizes.
- Barrel Enail Coil: The barrel coil resembles the axial coil but lacks bottom wrapping. The barrely style enail coil is paired with titanium nails or bucket bangers with a side arm to hold the barrel coil in place as an o-clamp cannot be used to hold the coil in place being that there is not bottom coil wrap for the o-clamp to hold up. Barrel coils offer a unique advantage for dabbers who prefer a smaller dab or have smaller lung capacity. Whereas the axial coil heats the entirety of the banger, bottom and sides, the barrel coil only heats the sides. This means if someone takes small inhalations and does not finish the entirety of the dab, as the dab sits at the bottom of the banger it is not vaporized at the same rate as if there were to be coil wraps heating the bottom of the bucket. There is a 8mm and 10mm version of the barrel coil which are used with nectar collectors to heat up the titanium nail for the most epic nectar collector dab you will ever have. Available in 8mm, 10mm, 20mm and 25mm diameter sizes.
- Terp Slurper Enail Coil: The terp slurper enail coil is essentially an axial coil with less vertical wraps. Terp Slurper bangers have become one of the most popular banger styles for their superior taste and terpene consumption capabilities. As opposed to bucket bangers or dab nails, terp slurper bangers have their airflow being fro the bottom dish of the banger, forcing the air through the dab as inhaled, allowing for maximum taste and terpene consumption. The terp slurper coil wraps the bottom of the dish up to the height of the terp slurper dish, not surpassing the height to allow for proper clearance for the dab tool and dab to be placed on the dish without contacting the enail coil. Available in 25mm, 30mm and 35mm diameter sizes
- Hybrid Enail Coil: A hybrid coil is another version of an axial coil but with even less vertical wraps than the terp slurper coil, typically 1 or 2 vertical wraps. It is used with hybrid nails. The coil totally covers the bottom of the dish but only slightly covers the wall, allowing a carb cap to close on the titanium or quartz dish. Available in 25mm, 30mm and 35mm diameter sizes.
Most enail coils look similar in appearance. They might have the same xlr plug with 5 pins at the bottom, but just because they look the same, it does not mean that it’ll work with your enail controller box.
When the pin configurations on both the controller and the coil are incompatible, your display screen will most likely show an error code (EEEE). The reason pin arrangement is so critical is because each pin represents a specific function. In other instances the coil may heat up but the temperature may not read correctly. It is therefore crucial to pair the coil with the same brand controller box or to ensure the pin setup is appropriate for the controller box.
One pin may control power, while another may regulate temperature. When a pin allocated for a specific functionality is inserted into the incorrect slot on your controller box, your enail coil will not function properly. We are sure to describe coil pin setup for each controller box and enail coil we have available on our site.
Most enail brands will produce all of their enail coils with the same pin configuration, so if you know which brand your controller box is, you're in luck! A quick search can yield the results you need.
Once plugged into the controller box and turned on, the user can adjust the temperature of the coil by selecting the desired temperature on the controller box. The e-nail controller transmits electricity to the heating coil, causing the coil to heat up. The coil is attached to a dab nail or quartz banger which is then heated by the coil to the specified temperature.
